Two Months

Since you were born on December 31, you didn't have an exact date for your two month birthday so we decided to celebrate it today, on a Monday; since that is the day you were born!  It's hard to believe that you are two months old already.  On one hand, it has been two of the toughest and longest months of my life, but on the other it has flown by so quickly and been the most joyous time in my life.

Your second month of life was very eventful.  We saw you smile for the first time, your hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes have grown more (your eyelashes are long and gorgeous by the way), you traveled to Saint Louis, and you have had many outings to restaurants, stores, and really love sleeping in your car seat when we take these trips, which I am very thankful for.

Here are some general statistics of you from your two month checkup:

Weight: 11 pounds 13 ounces (56 percentile)

Height: 22.5 inches (70th percentile)
Head:  15.5

Overall Health:

You still are a very healthy baby boy!  You passed your hearing test on February 4th so no more worries about your failed hearing test in the hospital.  You also are growing very well (look at those chubby cheeks!).  You did have an eye infection this month and have continued to have a lot of drainage in your left eye but the doctor said not to worry unless you are six months and still have that problem.

Clothes:
You stopped being able to wear newborn clothes around Feb 10.  I was kind of sad as I packed up your cute newborn outfits because you only got to wear some of the things once and also because that means you are already growing so big! I joked with Dad that pretty soon we’ll be sending you to school it is going so fast!!  The good thing is that you had a lot more clothes in the bigger sizes so I have been able to dress you up in really cute outfits this month.  As of today, you are wearing anywhere from 0 to 3 months, and even some 3-6 months clothing depending on the brand.  I must say that your closet is almost full (you are soo spoiled and have so many clothes), so I might need to start moving some of your clothes into the office.

Sleep:
You still sleep pretty well.  I think the biggest issue is that you sleep a lot during the day so sometimes when nighttime comes you want no part of sleeping.  ).  You are sleeping in the pack n play at night and still like being swaddled because if not you like to flail your arms around and scare yourself. Ha!  For most of the month, you were on a schedule where you woke up every 3 hours, and sometimes 4 hours in the middle of the night to eat.   As of writing this, you are sometimes even sleeping 5 to 6 hours, so you are very close to sleeping through the night for us! Woohoo!  You cry when you are hungry (and boy, do you let us know it if we take too long to get your bottle.  Our goal for the next two months is to get you sleeping in your crib so you get used to that, and also to give mommy and daddy some much needed rest. J

Diet:
You are still eating only breast milk and consistently eating about 4-5 ounces each feeding.  You also don’t have any allergies (that we know of yet), and we have finally found a good bottle that doesn't cause you to spit up so much.  Since you feeding from my breast didn’t really work so well, I have been pumping to make your bottles.  It has made feeding a whole lot easier and I think it is good that we are not fighting anymore to eat.  At your two month appointment, the doctor suggested that I start giving you a vitamin supplement.  So far, after a couple does, it has caused weird poos and smells really gross, so I’m hoping you get used to that and these symptoms go away.

Milestones:
At around the end of six weeks, we really started to notice how alert you are.  You are now moving your eyes at things, and also smiling at us.  You also started to make cooing noises and different sounds at around 5 weeks onward.  It seems like each day you make a new sound so I know that you are trying to talk to us! I am sure once you start talking I will be begging you to stop!  Speaking of sounds, you also grunt right when you are falling asleep.  It is very funny, and we joke that you are fighting ninjas in your sleep. You are very strong and are very good at keeping your head up, however you don’t like your 10 minutes of tummy time per day like you used to when you were lighter.
