Infections, Oh My!

It's only Wednesday and by far this has been one of the toughest weeks of being your mom so far.  The reason - two infections :(.

On Monday around 2pm, I started feeling really bad.  I was shivering, had a really bad headache, and had a horrible lump and pain in my right breast.  I tried to take a nap for a couple hours (thank goodness Dad was home to take care of you!), but I just could not get warm or feel any better.  Since it was about 6:30pm when I woke up from my nap, and I still felt really bad, I didn't want to chance having to wait until the morning to see a doctor so I decided to go to the Urgent Care near our house.  I am so glad I did!  It turns out that I had a 103 degree fever (ouch!), and the doctor diagnosed me with mastitis.  The treatment for this is antibiotics, advil to kill the fever, massage and heat of the breast, and as much rest as possible.  While it was a horrible past couple days, I am happy to say that as I writing this, I haven't had a fever for 12 hours and my breast, while sore, is feeling tons better.  I have to continue taking the antibiotics for the next week but hopefully I have turned the corner and won't have this issue again.  To ensure this doesn't happen again, I have to make sure to nurse/pump every 3 hours at least!

The second infection made me feel worse than the first because it was yours.  Yesterday evening, Dad noticed that the whites of your eyes were red and your eyes were a little inflamed.  For the first few weeks, you had drainage coming out of your eye but the doctor said it was normal for newborns to have blocked tear ducts and you just had to grow out of it.  For whatever reason, this week, the drainage turned a different shade of yellow and you weren't opening your eye as big as your other one.  Due to this, I called the doctor this morning and they had me come in to check it out.  It turns out you have an infection, so we have to put a drop in your eyes three times a day for five days.  I am happy to say that after a few treatments, your eye is already getting better.

Even though this has definitely been a rough and exhausting few days, I am just amazed at the little person you have become over this past month and it fills me with joy and makes all the struggles worth it.

Love ya Wesley!
